Useful workplace and fleet charging starts with who will use the chargers, how long vehicles remain parked, and the site’s available electrical capacity.
Define the charging need
Employee parking, customer charging, and fleet operations have different schedules and management needs. Identify vehicle types, daily travel, parking duration, and expected growth before selecting equipment.
Review the site
Assess service capacity, panel space, cable routes, trenching, accessibility, protection, and network connectivity. Load management may help coordinate charging, but it must fit the site’s operating requirements.
Check funding before committing
MassEVIP offers different programs for different sites. Funding is not guaranteed. Confirm the applicable program, eligible costs, approval sequence, and current availability with MassDEP. Separately review utility programs and tax treatment; do not assume they cover the entire installation.
Plan ongoing operation
Decide who can charge, whether payment is required, who manages the network account, and who handles maintenance. Include recurring software and operating costs in the comparison.
