SPAN

Part of your complete home energy system

Smart Electrical Panels & SPAN

Understand how your home uses electricity and manage the circuits that matter. A smart panel connects electrical planning with solar, battery backup, EV charging, and future upgrades.

The control layer

See and manage your home’s electrical loads.

Your electrical panel distributes power to household circuits. A smart panel adds monitoring and control features that can help you understand consumption and manage priorities. It does not generate electricity or store energy: solar, batteries, and generators perform those separate roles.

BD Electrical & Solar evaluates whether a conventional panel upgrade, dedicated load-management equipment, or a SPAN smart panel is the right fit for your property and goals.

What it adds

More visibility. Better coordination.

Circuit-Level Visibility

SPAN provides circuit-level energy information and control through its app. See which loads are using electricity and make informed decisions about household energy use.

Backup Priorities

With a compatible battery system, SPAN can help prioritize circuits during an outage. Backup still depends on the storage system’s available energy and output; the panel does not create additional battery capacity.

Planning for Electrification

An EV, heat pump, or other new appliance changes the electrical picture. We evaluate capacity and appropriate load-management options before recommending a panel or service upgrade.

Choose the right approach

A smart panel and a service upgrade are different decisions.

Conventional Panel Upgrade

A replacement panel may address condition, space, or distribution needs. Monitoring and app-based control are not the same as the core electrical function of the panel.

Smart Panel Installation

Consider smart controls when circuit visibility, compatible backup priorities, or future energy-system coordination matter to you. We review features against your actual needs.

Electrical Service Capacity

Changing the panel alone does not necessarily increase utility service capacity. Service equipment, conductors, utility requirements, and the electrical load assessment determine what is needed.

Built into the whole system

How it works with the other components.

Solar generates electricity. Batteries store it. EV charging and household equipment use it. A smart panel helps monitor and control the connected circuits. During an outage, supported backup controls can help manage demand against the backup system’s limits.

Integration depends on the particular panel model, battery equipment, configuration, and supported features. We verify compatibility before finalizing the design.

Common questions

Is a smart panel right for your home?

Do I need solar or batteries to use a smart panel?

A smart panel can provide monitoring and control without solar or storage. Backup-specific features require compatible backup equipment.

Will a smart panel keep my lights on during an outage?

Not by itself. It needs a suitable backup power source and the required integration to support circuits during an outage.

Will SPAN work with any battery or generator?

Do not assume universal compatibility. We check current manufacturer requirements, equipment models, controllers, and the intended operating arrangement before recommending a design.

Can it eliminate the need for a service upgrade?

Appropriate load management may help in some projects, but it is not a guarantee. The electrical assessment and applicable requirements determine the solution.
